Beanie Weenies (aka Franks and Beans) are a longstanding New England traditional Saturday night supper. My grandmother would make the baked beans and the brown bread that was served with them from scratch. I've got both of those recipes and look forward to sharing them with you some day.
These days there are great store-bought varieties of baked beans and you can also buy the brown bread in the can. The only other ingredients you need are some butter and hot dogs.
The first thing you want to do is open both ends of the brown bread can and slowly slide the loaf out. Slice it into 8 rounds and place them on a baking sheet. Mine has 6 because my weirdo kid doesn't like his warm ... Pop the sheet into a preheated 300 degree oven for about 25 minutes.
We prefer the all beef hot dogs, and you want to slice them into 1/2" coins. Heat up some butter in a large skillet, choose one with a lid because you'll need it later. Toss in the hot dog slices and cook and stir them until they are browned to your liking.
Add a large can of baked beans. Most of the time we go with a maple and bacon variety, but the barbecue flavored are excellent too. Of course, if you have a homemade recipe you love, that would be amazing to use.
Stir and then cover and heat everything through. We enjoy ours ladled into bowls with the buttered brown bread used to soak up any of the deliciousness left at the bottom.
